The quality of the MVs had to be super compressed so it could be played on Itch, so please consider downloading the standalone build to see them in HQ (especially Diaxart's edit which is sick)

DISCLAIMER (yap warning)

This is my first time making a rhythm game and this many charts at once. The designs of them inherently differ from a lot of what's popular on itch.io's rhythm game community - I tried to mostly replicate the style of official Dance Dance Revolution charts, most notably placing beats on a combination of both the main melody and various rhythmic elements of the songs. This also includes chart design elements like keeping leg crossovers and foot patterns in mind (though I slipped from this a bit for the sake of experimenting). Essentially most of the songs were created to be experienced best on a dancepad first and keyboard second. As a result I think the levels will have a very different feel from games like FNF.
I really like playing DDR so it was very fun to create these levels, and I hope you can enjoy and vibe with the weird style of charting I went for.  To help players who find them tricky, I included an autoplay function to allow you to analyse the beats in each level so you can get a feel for what the rhythms are.

Also yeah I did end up creating some dense sections and not testing them myself with the expectation that some hardcore guys will beat them ez. Oops.

FAQ

  • Q: How does character unlocking work?
    • A: Each time you clear a song on each difficulty for the first time you unlock the next character.
  • Q: Where are the hold notes?
    • A: Ain't got none, I aimed to replicate the style of the older DDR games which did not have freeze notes until the 6th game. The score formula I'm using does not account for hold notes and I didn't want to tamper with it and risk messing up an already fine-tuned formula. Additionally it inspired more creativity when charting songs instead of relying on holds everywhere like a certain community of rhythm game modders no offence.
  • Q: How are the scores and grades calculated?
    • A: I copied the scoring system from DDR 4th Mix. TLDR: Higher combo = more scores per step and you need a full combo to get the highest grade. This is also why combos are broken on an 'OK' step (for balance purposes). Have fun demolishing the scoreboard with high combos.
  • Q: How were the difficulties for each chart calculated?
    • A: They are mostly played by ear when I tested them. I might be wrong about what I decided to label them, particularly for the charts that are sort of in the middle.
  • Q: Why are some of the songs cut up or not exactly the same as the original version?
    • A: I tried to keep all the levels around 1:30 to 2:00 minutes long similarly to DDR as to keep the faster cycles of the arcade cabinet-style experience. Some songs were not able to be shortened because of how they are originally structured or because they were special exceptions.
  • Q: There's a problem with the Linux version can you fix it
    • A: No you don't deserve it for using Linux unironically
  • Q: I think one of the charts is unfair
    • A: I'm going to kill you

I own a website where you can play unblocked games online. May I have permission to use it on the website via HTML. The Website

this is absolutly incredible

i cant play upscroll but this was lowkey so fun

FUN

(1 edit)

are the charts bugged for anyone else? (ending instantly or early)
it's a shame because this seems awesome as hell

(1 edit)

Uhhh shit which chart where you playing and on what platform

(1 edit)

Played both on Windows and Web (Firefox)
Almost every chart has some issue, to name some examples:
- Sigma Boy: Ends instantly
- Hide Away: Ends early (after 98 combo / ~55 sec)
- Mangos: Notes move at super speed, making it unplayable
Tried different characters, difficulties and life meter options as well, with no differences afaik
edit: one chart that works fine is the DanTDM theme
Also I should add that in the ends instantly/early cases, you do get put into the results screen (not game over), and the song keeps playing while on it

Try now, I wasn't exactly sure what the issue could've been but I fixed some things that might have been a cause

yep seems to work fine now! bless

I cried actual tears. Truly, this is a small step for Prime, one giant leap for KSI.
